About the Media Center

The media center  is a resource for information that is available to students, teachers, faculty, and staff.  The media center staff is responsible for providing up to date and accurate information and resources for our community.  Our goal is to reach as many students as we can to assist them in gaining the skills, knowledge, and attitude they need to master information that will help further their education process.  We also want to provide materials that will encourage and instill a love of reading.

Students may visit the media center before and after school and during lunch without a pass.  During class time, students must have a pass from their teacher.  Students are expected to leave their book bags on the bookcases near the front door.  Students should keep any valuables with them at all times.  Students should not bring food or drinks into the media center.

*How do I find a book?

Look on the computer for the library catalog icon which is a shortcut to Destiny which is our new library management system.  Click on the catalog tab and then type in the author, title, or subject in the search box to see what books we have in our media center.   If you cannot find a book, ask a member of the media staff for help.

*How do I check out a book?

All books can be checked out except for reference books.  All you need to check out a book is your student ID card.  Bring your ID and the books you want to the circulation desk and we will help you there.

*How many books can I check out?

You may check out up to four books for two weeks at a time.  Any item may be renewed one time.  Please bring in the book to be renewed before the due date to avoid fines.

*Where do I return the items I’ve checked out?

There is a book drop in front of the circulation desk.

*What happens if I return my book late?

For each day that your book is overdue, you will be fined 10 cents per day per book until the book is returned.  No other books can be checked out until all fines have been paid.  Overdue notices will be delivered to you during first or sixth period.

*What happens if a book gets lost or damaged?

You are responsible for anything you check out in your name.  If an item gets lost or damaged, you must pay for the cost of replacing it.  This is also true for anything you check out for another person so please do not check out anything for a friend.

*Can I use a computer?

Yes but you must have your student ID with you and out in card holder on the computer.  Students have access to Microsoft Excel, Word, Publisher, and PowerPoint.  Students may also use the internet.  All work done on the computer must be school related and must stay within OCPS guidlelines.  Students are not  to send or receive e-mails or access myspace.  Students caught on inappropriate sites are subject to the loss of their computer priviledges for the year.

*How do I print something from the computer?

When you need to print something please be aware of the number of pages.  Also, remember that you can cut and paste onto Microsoft Word if needed.  When you need to print just push print and then come up to the circulation desk and let a member of the media staff know so that we can verify the number of pages you need printed and you can pay for them.
